Mary E. Dixon was a dedicated advocate for community health centers. As an employee of New Horizon Family Health Services (NHFHS), she devoted herself to highlighting our mission “To provide quality, affordable, compassionate patient-centered health care to improve the health of the communities we serve”. Dixon frequently engaged with staff, patients, local agencies, officials, and the broader community to discuss the efforts and influence of NHFHS in upstate South Carolina. We are proud to continue Ms. Dixon’s legacy with the Mary E. Dixon Community Advocate Award, which is given annually to an employee for outstanding external representation and involvement to further the mission and vision of New Horizon Family Health Services.
A 1950 graduate of Sterling High School, Mary E. Dixon attended Johnson C. Smith University and dedicated over 70 years to the West Greenville Community, where she resided. As a committed member of the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, she received the Esther Award in 2009 for her dedication to God’s work. Her extensive community service included serving as the Director of the Groce Street Community Center (now the West Greenville Community Center), serving on former Mayor Cooper White’s Human Relations Commission, organizing the “Clean Up the Community” Campaign in West Greenville, and so much more.
In honor of her birthday, Mary received a Proclamation from Mayor Knox H. White, declaring May 28, 2010 as “Mary Dixon Day” in the city of Greenville.
